Folic Acid For Men: Can It Help Treat Erectile Dysfunction Naturally?
Did you know that the deficiency of folic acid (FA) in your body can put you at the risk of erectile dysfunction and premature ejaculation?
When most people talk about folic acid ( a synthetic form of vitamin B9, also called Folate) they usually refer to the importance of women’s health, especially during pregnancy to help prevent a birth defect of her baby’s brain and spinal cord.
However, new researchers signified how crucial folic acid is for men for maintaining adequate sexual function.
Researchers from the Renmin Hospital of Wuhan University in China have discovered a connection between low levels of folic acid and erectile dysfunction or premature ejaculation.
In a study, they examined serum folic acid levels in men suffering ED and/or PE. The fasting serum sample was obtained from 42 patients with ED, 36 with PE, 25 ED patients with PE and 30 healthy men.
They measured the levels of sex hormone such as a follicle-stimulating hormone, luteinizing hormone; total testosterone, homocysteine, and FA.
Over the four-week study period, the mean Intravaginal Ejaculation Latency Time (IELT) was also measured.
All the result of the test were then compared with samples and measured obtained from men with a healthy sexual function.
No significant differences in the sex hormone level were found between men with sexual dysfunction and healthy men. However, folic acid levels did vary significantly and this had repercussions for ED and/PE.
Men with deficiencies of folic acid had higher concentrations of homocysteine and experience ED and/or PE.
These finding showed that there is a strong relationship between low-level Folic acid and sexual dysfunction. [Source]
